Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation Surgery
What is Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Breast augmentation surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at increasing the volume and size of breasts that have a small appearance by using silicone implants. Some patients may naturally have smaller breasts due to their body structure. Additionally, aging, pregnancy, and weight fluctuations can cause a reduction in breast tissue volume. With breast implants, breasts can be brought to the desired size, and any symmetry issues in the breast can also be corrected. Breast augmentation surgeries are significant both as a surgical and aesthetic procedure, and the demand for these surgeries has been steadily increasing each year. While popular culture influences this trend, many individuals realize their need for breast augmentation as they face issues with clothing fit and have greater access to information about the procedure.
Silicone Implant Selection
For small breasts, silicone implants provide a permanent and highly effective solution. Before undergoing breast augmentation surgery, selecting the right silicone implant is crucial. Patients considering breast augmentation should collaborate with their doctor to plan and choose the appropriate silicone implant. The desired post-surgery look is determined, and the type and size of the silicone implant are decided accordingly. Besides knowing the patient’s bra and body size, the experience and opinions of the surgeon play a significant role in choosing the implant. Implants can be selected in round or teardrop shapes, depending on the current shape of the breast. Most patients prefer implants that are not noticeable to others, which is influenced by the surgeon’s skill.
Are Silicone Implants Safe?
Silicone implants are made from medical-grade silicone material and are shaped like special, textured balloons. The interior is filled with medical-grade silicone gel. The implants used are guaranteed by the manufacturers. They are body-compatible and do not cause any issues in social life after the surgery.
Breast Implants and Milk Ducts
Breast implants are usually placed under the breast muscle through a 4-5 cm incision made beneath the breast. This approach ensures that both the milk ducts and the sensory function of the breast are not harmed. After the surgery, the patient can breastfeed comfortably.
Will There Be Scarring After the Surgery?
To place silicone implants, a 4 cm incision is made under the breast. Since the incision is located under the breast, it remains hidden and can be minimized with the use of post-surgery creams. The scar may even disappear within 2 years.
Who Can Undergo Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Individuals who have completed puberty, are over 18 years old, are suitable for general anesthesia, and are in good overall health are eligible for breast augmentation surgery (silicone implant surgery).
Post-Surgery Daily Life
After breast augmentation surgery, there are three important movements that should be avoided for about 10 days:

- Lifting heavy objects (including children)
During the first 10 days after surgery:
- The medical bra should not be removed for the first 6 days.
- On the 6th day, the patient may shower.
- After showering, the wound may be left open, and no dressing will be needed.
- The medical bra should be worn for 15 days, followed by a sports bra for the next 15 days.
- After the first month, and with the doctor’s approval, the patient can switch to a regular bra.
- After one month, patients can return to their normal daily routine.
