Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (Nose surgery) is one of the first procedures that come to mind when thinking about aesthetic surgery. Rhinoplasty is the most common cosmetic surgery performed worldwide. Nose surgeries are performed not only to resolve breathing problems but also to achieve a beautiful nose that harmonizes with the face from an aesthetic perspective.

The nose is the first organ that catches attention on our face. Therefore, people who are dissatisfied with the shape of their nose can be negatively affected both socially and psychologically. Rhinoplasty surgeries are primarily aesthetic, but a successful surgery can also correct any existing breathing problems. After the surgery, patients often find peace with their reflection, gain more confidence, and experience an improvement in their quality of life.

Rhinoplasty surgeries need to be performed with great care and should be done by experienced plastic surgeons. Those seeking cosmetic nose surgery should not face breathing problems post-surgery.

Open / Closed Rhinoplasty

In rhinoplasty surgeries, there are two techniques: open and closed. The decision to perform an open or closed rhinoplasty depends on the structure of the patient’s nose, the desired nose shape post-surgery, and any breathing issues. In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made at the base of the nose, providing the surgeon with a clearer view of what needs to be done. Although closed rhinoplasty is very popular today, it is not suitable for everyone. For most patients, open rhinoplasty is necessary to achieve the best results.

Who Can Undergo Rhinoplasty?

Nose surgery can be performed for those experiencing breathing difficulties, dissatisfied with the shape of their nose, have a deformed nose, or want to change the nose to better harmonize with their face. It is suitable for patients who are in good general health and can safely undergo general anesthesia.

Shape Changes in Rhinoplasty

The most common requests in rhinoplasty surgeries vary based on the patient’s face structure and their beauty preferences. Common requests include nose reduction, lifting a drooping nose tip, removing a nose hump, shortening a long nose, and reducing the size of the nostrils.

Surgical and Post-Surgical Process

Before the surgery, it is mandatory to inform your plastic surgeon about your general health, medications, and any chronic conditions. Knowing these details will help the surgeon take precautions to prevent potential complications during and after surgery.

The recovery process for rhinoplasty is gradual. On the day of the surgery, patients typically spend the night at the hospital. After necessary checks the following day, the patient may be discharged. A splint is placed on the nose during surgery, and it is removed on the 9th day. The first check-up is usually done on the 4th or 5th day after surgery. The splint is removed on the 9th day.

Swelling may take 6-12 months to subside.
